At ABM International School, we launched the Green Ablution Project in 2021
The Green Ablution Project (GAP) is an ongoing eco-conscious initiative that repurposes the water used for ritual ablution (wudhu) to irrigate trees and plants within the school’s compound. Rooted in both environmental sustainability and religious principles of water conservation and hygiene, this project offers a practical and symbolic model of holistic learning, integrating values-based education with sustainable development practices.
Initially, the project started to address water leakage from air conditioning systems to be reused to irrigate school trees. Pipes were installed and redirected to serve this purpose and developed until a network of taps and channels was designed and placed adjacent to green spaces across the campus. Students and staff perform wudhu at the designated taps, and the runoff water is automatically redirected to nourish nearby plant beds and trees, eliminating waste while enhancing our natural surroundings.
ABM focuses on integrating environmental sustainability into spiritual practices through the reuse of water used for ablution (Wudu).
This project supports multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

• SDG 4: QUALITY EDUCATION: by embedding sustainability into curriculum and practice.
